About Us

Our story
Green Snohomish began as an offshoot from an Indivisible Group, formed in response to the 2016 election. The original group, founded by Lya Bagley and Karen Guzak, was named Snohomish Rising. The group divided into several subgroups, each with its own focus topic. Members called and wrote elected representatives with comments related to their topic. Over time, the environmentally focused subgroup continued its work and expanded to what is today a lively and active collection of people committed to improving our environment and building a strong and resilient community.

Activities
Annual Tree Tour
Every year we organize and lead the Historic Snohomish Tree Tour in appreciation of our magnificent tree-lined streets.
Plastic bag ban
Led a grassroots effort that succeeded in the Reusable Bag Ordinance passed by the Snohomish City Council in 2019.
Strawless Campaign
Encouraged businesses to not automatically give out plastic straws and offer other alternatives.
Farmer’s Market
We volunteer at the seasonal farmer’s market managing waste and recycling from food vendors.
Member education
We learn and teach each other how to make a difference through individual actions, by being involved with local government, and making connections in the community.
Trash cleanups
Our monthly work parties are frequently trash cleanup efforts near our sensitive riverbank areas.
Donations
Green Snohomish is currently working towards non-profit status by end of 2025.
We do accept donations online via Venmo. If you find us at the Snohomish Farmer’s Market or at our seasonal Tree Tour, we accept cash donations in person as well. Our funds are mostly spent on trees for our urban canopy and general supplies for our trash cleanups.
Other organizations we support
We share some of the same goals as these groups and support their visions for the future. In addition, Green Snohomish members will occasionally volunteer for their events and work parties.
